NCC-DRC Hosts 1st Women in ADR Summit to Champion Innovation and Inclusivity in Dispute Resolution

The Nigerian Chambers of Commerce Dispute Resolution Centre (NCC-DRC) successfully hosted the 1st Annual Women in ADR Summit themed “Pioneering Innovation and Driving Inclusive Change” on the 6th day of March 2025 at the Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, SAN Trade and Convention Centre. The summit, held in commemoration of International Women’s Day 2025, brought together esteemed ADR professionals, thought leaders, and policymakers to celebrate the growing influence of women in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and explore strategies for fostering greater inclusivity and innovation in the field.

In his welcome address, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, SAN, Chairman of the NCC-DRC, highlighted the remarkable strides women have made in ADR, breaking barriers in a traditionally male-dominated profession. He emphasized the need for continued efforts in ensuring women assume leadership roles, influence policy, and access greater opportunities within the ADR ecosystem.

Delivering the keynote address, Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, PhD, President of ACCI, underscored the critical role of women in driving innovation and inclusivity in dispute resolution while he noted that beyond technological advancements, true innovation in ADR lies in diverse perspectives and inclusive strategies that foster equitable outcomes. Chief Obegolu, SAN, PhD amongst other things, called for ensuring equal representation of women in ADR leadership, the creating of structured opportunities for career advancement through Mentorship, leveraging technology to enhance accessibility and efficiency in ADR, and strengthening networks to support women in ADR across jurisdictions.

The summit featured two panel sessions, where distinguished women ADR professionals shared insights on how increased female inclusion can strengthen the ADR sector. Discussions explored challenges, opportunities, and actionable strategies for ensuring a more diverse and inclusive ADR Panels and Proceedings.

The Women in ADR Summit, which witnessed the presentation of awards ADR practitioners that have stood out in their service to the ADR community, also served as a call to action for stakeholders across the ADR community to actively promote gender equity, mentorship, and collaboration.
